Ice Ice Baby

kate | 25 Aug 06

So I was on the train on my home the other day and I was reading the TWoP recaps for the episodes of DC that I had just watched and I lost it.  I completely lost it.  I was trying so hard not to guffaw out loud that I ended up crying and beetroot-red.  I actually did laugh openly at first and then realised I was so loud I was that I had to try to restrain myself.  This led to ten minutes of residual laughter - you know, when you still want to laugh and if you think about the thing that made you laugh, you start off again.  The thing that set me off was this:

I was reading the part of the recap that was talking about how Dawson felt responsible for his father’s death because he thought his dad was driving angry (and this is why he crashed) whereas in reality, he was singing along to a song, looking quite chipper, using his ice-cream cone to point out parts of the song, thus flicking ice-cream around his car and thus making it necessary for him to undo his seatbelt.  As I have been typing this, I have been laughing again.  I just tried to explain it to my colleague but apparently you had to be there.  Or more accurately, be me.  Because only I am finding this funny enough to laugh about everytime I get the mental image of Mitch singing along in the car with his ice-cream.  Oh no, I’m off again….

I heart YouTube

kate | 23 Aug 06

Just found Mila’s and Vilmer’s punk’d clips on YouTube.  So funny.  “It’s a fake dog” - HA!!   I find it much funnier when they are friends of the Kutch.  Also?  Danny Masterson is not as sexy as Hyde.   In answer to my previous pondering on this subject.

Dear “Writers”

kate |

I am enjoying Season 5 just fine as it goes.  However I have one MAJOR gripe about this season.  Have you forgotten that Joey and Pacey were an item?  I mean, not just an item, but in love.  And having sex.  And that they broke up and it was very upsetting for them both?  Because you have barely mentioned it at all.  All Joey (and everyone around Joey) can seem to talk about is Dawson and how they didn’t get together.  Other than one scene and a couple of ‘looks’, it has hardly even been acknowledged.  I am glad I know how things turn out because this is just not cool.

Signed

Another Monday, another season

kate |

I am 8 episodes into Season 5 and I am enjoying this a lot more than I had dare to hope!  Even Dawson has had moments where he isn’t total jerk.  I am enjoying the fact that Jen and Dawson have just ‘done it’ (but do not appreciate the fact that there had to be Dawson- nakedness).  I am also enjoying ‘getting to know’ Audrey (YES, I know it’s a fictional character) - she is hilarious.  Pacey has his own thing going on, which whilst is a bit dull, means that he is at least still on the show.  I shall be thankful for that.  And its nice to see him away from the triangle drama.  Joey left Dawson a drunken message, which is always nightmare, and utters:

Drunk people should have the right to neutralise their own messages.

I whole-heartedly agree, Joey, but as I learned at 16 years old, this is not possible.  I am not a fan of Karen so I am hoping that this story will go away soon.  I am looking forward to seeing Audrey and Pacey fall for each other because whilst I am a resolute Jacey shipper (for want for a better, less juvenile phrase), until they are ready to reunite, I am happy to see what happens with A and P.

Sideburns are sexy

kate | 21 Aug 06

I have this problem.  I see a TV show that I like.  It usually has a leading man that I grow fond of.  I then run to IMDB.com to see what else they have been in and then purchase DVDs of said actor’s films (or in Vartan’s case, films and TV mini-series.  Because he’s worth it.  Because he is my favourite.).  For example just today, I received Shadows in the Sun with my current fake-beau, Josh Jackson.

Now my dilemma is this.  Take That 70s Show as a perfect example.  I like me a bit of Topher so have watched (repeatedly I might add) Win A Date with Tad Hamilton and have seen other bits and pieces of his.  However, as I mentioned before, I am growing increasingly attached to Mr Masterson but I am reluctant to purchase anything because what if I am only fond of his sideburns and other sexy 70s paraphenailia?  What if he is not so hot in real life / other films?  I think the only solution is to check our YouTube and Apple trailers to see if I can find any clips that will enlighten me.  I will keep you posted on this most important investigation.

Your order has been posted…

kate |

5 beautiful words which mean that I can be watching Season 5 tomorrow night if I am lucky!

ETA - its arrived…. and hubbie has overtime to do… I make that Dawson’s O’Clock…

I have finished season 4 of Dawson’s Creek and it was predictably upsetting but I have to say that it was not as bad as I feared.  As I have previously menioned, the way things turned out was enough for me to boycott the entire series first time around.  However I hate to sound as if I think these characters are real people but Joey and Pacey so cannot be together right now - he needs to make something of himself so that he has some self-respect.  I could barely watch the prom break-up scene.  It’s just excrutiating and so badly written.  I was just as frustrated watching this inexplicable turn of events as I was the first time but at this time I had the comfort on knowing how things turned out in the long-run.  However the break-up itself wasn’t the problem for me - I think that the characters both needed to sort themselves out in order to be able to eventually live happily ever after with each other.  The problem was the crap reason that Pacey (well, the writers) gave.

ETA: There is a kick-ass quote I want to use by Sars from TWoP which perfectly voices my frustrations but I have emailed to ask for permission - will post it if/when she replies.

But the last few episodes of the season had a lot more going for them than I remembered.  So I am eager to start on unchartered waters… two new never before seen seasons…  it is wrong how much I am looking forward to this!

FINALLY

kate | 17 Aug 06

it is proven that Joey is not made of stone and she gives it up for Pacey…

Joey:   Pacey… this is about how you carried my bag off the bus yesterday. This is how when we go to the movies and you go and you buy popcorn, you always be sure you bring back a napkin so I don’t wipe all the grease on my jeans. And this is about how just last week when we were at miniature golf you took all of the shots first so I would know the correct path. You taught me how to drive. And last year at prom, you knew that the bracelet I was wearing was my mom’s. You kissed me first sweetheart. The second time you counted to 10 before doing it again, just in case I wanted to stop you. You bought me a wall. We were alone on a boat for three months and you understood without a word why I wasn’t ready. Do you have to ask me now why I am? Pace? I’m gonna count to 10… and then I’m going to start kissing you. If you don’t want me to… you’re just going to have to stop me. 10, my love.

True love

kate | 15 Aug 06

So in less than one week I had watched the entire Season 3 which is pretty impressive considering I have a full time job and I spend 4.5 hours a day commuting.  Well, impressive if you are a telly addict like me.  And I did love Season 3 as I predicted.  I can’t list my favourite scenes because there were too many.  I would have to start listing episodes and that is just dull.  Even the episodes that sucked (The Longest Day) still had their moments.  I found it increasingly difficult not to throw objects at the TV when Dawson was on, especially once he found out about Joey and Pacey.  His overwhelming self-centredness just made me want to stick pins in my eyes.  That aside, I was grinning like a goon when Joey FINALLY came to her senses and went after Pacey.  AWWWW.

Now I have made a start on Season 4.  I have actually managed to watch 3 or 4 episodes without fast-forwarding which is pretty amazing.  I think it must be because I have only seen these episode once, the first time around when they aired originally.  Seasons 1-3 were repeated a lot. And I have to say that Season 4 is so far competing for my affections.  The only (major) problem with Season 4, and the reason I actually stopping watching the series altogether, is the crappy (if necessary) ending.  I will not think about Pacey acting like a tool for now.  I will NOT think about Joey and Dawson getting back together for now.  And when I do have to watch it, I will keep in mind that Joey and Pacey end up together so I will be able to power on through it.  More of that later…..

I have also been able to catch up on That 70s Show and Freddie.  Being incredibly hungover does wonders for your tv watching time!  There is not a fat lot to say about Freddie - it really is just fluff.  No substance.  Like candyfloss.  But I enjoy it nonetheless.  That 70s Show is hardly heavy going but this week were the epidoses where Eric disappears the night of his rehearsal dinner, leaving Donna high and dry.  So its compelling watching, if I am honest.  I am also developing a mild crush on Hyde.  Don’t ask me why.  Maybe its the sideburns.

JACEY!

kate | 11 Aug 06

I am FINALLY on Season 3.  OK, I say finally as if its a long time (when it was actually only 4 days) but Season 2 felt like a long haul of crap at times.  I really liked the Pacey/Andie storyline and there were some great moments but as a whole, seeing Joey and Dawson together made me gag.  A lot.  I did fast-forward through a lot of the scenes, admittedly.  But I just see that as prolonging the enjoyment of the DVDs as if there is ever a rainy day when I don’t have anything to watch (it might happen!), I can re-watch these DVDs in full.

I think Season 3 is my favourite so I am trying not to skip anything but I just cant help FF-ing any scene that contains Eve.  It perturbs me to see Jessica Wakefield as a slut.  Sweet Valley High (the books and the TV show) was great when I was a kid and to see that all-American girl as a ho is just wrong.  Plus she annoys the hell out of me.  Plus pretty much all her scenes are with Dawson, which is reason enough to skip them.  Final plus - she went out with Joshua Jackson after he dated Katie Holmes - and that gives me the skeeves.  So I like to pretend that she doesn’t exist… is that alright??

So on to my top 5 favourite scenes from Season 3 so far (given that I am only on Episode 2):

  1. Dawson rejecting Joey’s (attempted) sexual advances.  My god, this scene has me behind a cushion everytime.  “I can  be sexual too, Dawson” EUW.  Put it away, Joey and save it for a real man, why dontcha?  And Dawson?  You’re a loser.
  2. Pacey comforts Joey on the dock.  They have so much chemistry.  It makes me go SQUEEEEE like a 16 year old (which, lets face it, is the intended audience.  Not married 30 year old.  Don’t tell me to get a life.).
  3. Andie tells Pacey that she was unfaithful and begs for forgiveness.  This scene is just heartbreaking.  She babbles on for ages with the reason why she did it before actually saying what she has done and Pacey just simply asks “You slept with him?” and it literally breaks my heart.  Considering this is ‘just’ a teen show, Joshua Jackson acts his arse off.  Nearly every episode.  Why hasn’t he had more work?  Or maybe I just haven’t seen it.  *off to IMDB to see what I need to watch*
  4. Jen’s Head Cheerleader Smackdown.  Just class.  This is also followed by cute scenes between Jack and Jen - my favourite friendship on the show - with her all embarrassed and horrified to be made head cheerleader.
  5. Pacey and Dawson fight.  Pacey is drunk + Dawson is a tool = FIGHT!  Well an iddy-biddy one, but two punches thrown - great stuff.  Also I love that Joey runs to Pacey’s aid instead of Dawson…. do you see Dawson?… you fucked up.  You pushed her into Pacey’s arms.  Well I am getting a little ahead of myself, but it started here.  Dawson?  Take note, pal.

Tomorrow, my husband is off to play golf so I will have the TV to myself for a few hours.  Bliss!  I know I have other things to do, but I can multitask!  Plus I might be able to catch up on the week of That 70s Show that I haven’t had chance to watch, along with Freddie and anything else I have recorded.

Now if only this day would hurry up and end already.  I am so not in the mood to work.
