Vote for Baddies!

27 Oct 08

In a previous life, I used to be a Customer Service Manager and one of my employees was a young scally called Jim.  He is a drummer and along with his twin bro, Mike and a couple of other chaps, they are doing pretty well with their band Baddies. They are on the MTV2 Myspace Chart hot list and they need votes to get the video for their song Battleships into the Top 10 which will mean twice daily showings = muchos exposure. Please click the link, check the box for Baddies and vote!

This is the song and their swanky video.

Keeping it real

2 Jul 08

Just heard some exciting news about Zach De La Rocha and his new band, One Day As A Lion:

ONE DAY AS A LION, the project featuring Zach De La Rocha (vocalist for RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE) and Jon Theodore (former drummer of THE MARS VOLTA) has inked a deal with Anti Records. The group’s eponymous debut EP is scheduled for release on July 22.

ONE DAY AS A LION’s sound is described in a press release as “a defiant affirmation of the possibilities that exist in the space between kick and snare. It’s a sonic reflection of the visceral tension between a picturesque fabricated cultural landscape, and the brutal socioeconomic realities it attempts to mask.

source via Rolling Stone

Describing the sound as a “defiant affirmation of the possibilities that exist in the space between kick and snare” is in no way pretentious, is it?  Hee!  In any case, I just had a gander at their MySpace page and as yet, no music is uploaded.  Their website just plays static, presumably to intrigue and build the excitement.  It’s working, I guess.  All this means is that I haven’t heard anything yet but I will keep you posted.  I will leave you with this final thought from the band:

One Day As A Lion is both a warning delivered and a promise kept.

Ok then.  I’ll consider myself warned and promised I guess.

Time grabs you by the wrist

23 Apr 08

One of the best gigs I have been to was the Green Day concert at Milton Keynes bowl in June 2005 (how was it nearly 3 years ago? God, that’s scary). This is a band that really knows how to work the crowd, play some rocking music and also inspire young (and not so young) kids all at the same time. I challenge you to find me one person of the 65,000 there that did not get blown away. And if you do find them, give them a slap from me. The weather was perfect - hot and sunny - and the beer was flowing. We had our good friends around us. The gig itself was a perfect mix of all the old favourites, the new (at the time) American Idiot album and a couple of kooky covers thrown in for good measure. They got some kids up on the stage to jam with them (I choose to believe these weren’t plants!). We bought the live album and everytime I listen to that, I get goosebumps.
