all five horizons

I have realised lately that I have had less and less to say here and it is odd. I think Twitter has a lot to answer for - the ease of short, snappy comments and the constant stream of ideas and thoughts is quite enticing. It also has something to do with the fact that more people I actually know read this so I suppose it has made me more careful. I have said before that I am this massive paradox and even my closet friends and family rarely know it. I may be confident and happy but I am also neurotic and desolate. That is such a good word for how I feel so much of the time lately. Dictionary.com defines ‘desolate’ as:

• barren or laid waste; devastated
• deprived or destitute of inhabitants; deserted; uninhabited.
• solitary; lonely
• having the feeling of being abandoned by friends or by hope; forlorn.
• dreary; dismal; gloomy

I love it when one word can say so much. Anyway, right now I am going to snuggle up under the covers watching Juno and enjoying the early night. And hopefully tomorrow I can find some other words which say so much but are less likely to bum you the eff out.

It’s been a while since I have shared some Monkey love.  Thought that this Warholizer was the perfect vehicle to do just that.

I just checked my Open University student home page to see if my result had been published for the gazillionth time and it had! And I had passed! I really should not be surprised (well, to be honest I am not) but I am still very pleased all the same. This course was a level 1 course which equates to a first year university course. As such, it was easier than the other 3 courses I have done so far which were all level 2. Even so, there were new topics (philosophy, music, history) and I put in my usual amount of effort (i.e. not nearly as much as I should) so I am pleased with this result. I want to try to get as prepared as I can for the next course (Advanced Creative Writing - my first level 3 course) by getting some ‘proper’ writing done before October. In the meatime, I really should be enjoying my OU break since I will be moaning about having to get assignments done in no time.

I was lucky enough to get a new camera for my birthday which I am still getting to know.  I did manage to get some snaps of our birthday sweetie bowl:

and then in the dying gloaming light, I snapped our rose bush which we thought we had killed but which produced copious flowers for us to enjoy:

And another showing a newer bud.  The specks on the petals aren’t pretty but we love every flower just the same.
